NuPhy Field 75HE – Marcel

Gaming meets Productivity - Field75HE

Introduction

The NuPhy Field 75 HE is a Hall Effect version of the already existing mechanical Field 75. Its main differences are the inclusion of 8K Hz polling rate Hall Effect switches and Rapid Trigger functionality, with SD compatibility coming at a later date. While the original Field 75 has more appealing colorways, the Field 75 HE surpasses it in nearly every other aspect.

Design and Features

The keyboard immediately stands out visually, and its feature set lives up to its premium appearance. The NuPhy Field 75 HE retails for $150 USD and comes with stock Magnetic White switches, though buyers have the option to choose Magnetic Jade switches for an additional cost.

Luckily, I had an extra set of Magnetic Jade switches to compare with the stock ones. The Magnetic White switches offer less stem wobble and a more premium sound profile compared to the stock switches of competitors like the Wooting 60he. While both the White and Jade switches perform similarly, the White HE switches have a lighter actuation overall while the Jades have tighter tolerances and a better sound.

Macro Buttons and Dials

The NuPhy Field 75 HE features a total of eight macro buttons. The four on the left are defaulted to media playback, while the bottom four are mapped to F5 through F8. A non-remappable volume dial is located on the left, and while its functionality is fixed, it’s a satisfying knob that could benefit from remapping capabilities.

Additionally, an RGB control dial adjusts brightness when turned and toggles the lighting on and off when pressed. A profile switch allows you to cycle between three onboard profiles, configurable via the software. While the macro buttons are satisfying to use, the profile switch is a bit stiff and requires noticeable effort to toggle.

Performance

The NuPhy Field 75 HE performs as expected for a Hall Effect keyboard in 2024. It delivers excellent in-game performance, with its advertised 8K Hz polling rate and Rapid Trigger functionality implemented seamlessly. My in-game experience felt crisp and responsive, with no noticeable quirks or issues during testing.

Build Quality

The keyboard’s top and bottom are made of ABS plastic. While a metal frame would provide additional weight and premium feel, the plastic keeps costs lower and doesn’t affect the keyboard’s stability, as it remains stationary on the desk.

The separately sold wrist rest is highly durable, made of acrylic, and resistant to yellowing. I tested its durability by leaving it in direct sunlight for several days, and it showed no signs of discoloration, ensuring it will maintain its appearance even in well-lit setups.

Conclusion

Overall, the NuPhy Field 75 HE offers a premium experience with a strong feature set, great performance, and satisfying switches. While there’s room for improvement, particularly in build materials and remapping options, the keyboard delivers excellent value at its price point.
