The glasspad that looked good on paper, but failed in reality?
Today we’re talking about the Superglide chrome, a glasspad that looked so good on paper yet failed in reality when people started getting their units. But why?
Back in 2023, Pulsar announced their Chrome-finished superglide pad. People we’re excited to get their hands on it due to the finish and how it looked, which also makes it a special one as it was only limited to 1000 units.
But once people started getting their units, issues started popping up. To be more specific, the surface caused issues with a lot of sensors not working correctly and having registration issues. The issues only kept on coming till Pulsar decided to take a step back and refund each customer for their purchase due to the pad being unusable and now it has become a pad for collectors.
And since i got my hands on one, i wanted to test those claims. The outcome was a lot more suprising from what i was expecting from other people’s experience.
Tests & Results
Mice used:
WLMouse Beast X Mini
EGG XM2 8K
Skates used:
GHOSTGLIDES Cyclone dots
X-Raypad Obsidian Air
I took on the mousepad and tested it with 2 different mice, with both 1mm LOD and 2mm LOD.
All 2 mice were used to play VALORANT, Overwatch 2 during the test period.
1mm LOD results:
1mm LOD, all of the mice listed above struggled with sensor registration issues on the surface, EGG XM2 8K and WLMouse Beast X Mini weren’t as severe as described by others but they had their fair share of inconsistencies.
So ultimately the pad completely failed on 1mm LOD.
2mm LOD results:
Now this is where i was more suprised, both mice had 0 issues with sensor registration or any sort of stuttering caused by the surface on 2mm LOD.
EGG XM2 8K and WLMouse Beast X Mini performed more than perfectly for hours without any issues during gameplay. The surface felt good, it was smooth without inconsistencies.
Therefore i wouldn’t consider the pad completely unusable.
But that may not be the case for other mice as i only have those 2 to test and play around with.
So why did it fail? What was the problem?
On May 9th 2023, Pulsar addressed the issue on their twitter that the issue was due to surface etching.
Which led to usability concerns for the customers, with that Pulsar cancelled all Superglide Chrome Editions that were sold/pre-ordered.
Which may mean there even might be less than a 1000 units out there but sadly there’s not much info on how many there actually is.
Although it happened and caused an outrage of customers being upset, Pulsar did the correct thing on issuing everyone a full refund and kept it transparent during the situation which the community loved.
Everyone who got refunded were saddened by this situation as many loved the chrome-finish and were super excited to get their hands on this.
