Review of the OwePowe WGR Series Mouse Pad
Introduction
The OwePowe WGR Series mouse pad is an intriguing offering from a relatively small company that reached out to me and provided a unit for review. While I had never heard of OwePowe before, their mouse pads piqued my interest with their unique designs. After spending some time with the WGR Series, I came away pleasantly surprised.
Specifications and Build Quality
The mouse pad measures 490x420mm with a 4mm base thickness. The stitching quality is impressive, sitting slightly below the surface. Though my unit had a minor issue on one corner, it did not impact my gaming experience. The surface is made from a nylon and spandex mixture, paired with a polyurethane base featuring a distinctive pattern. While not the stickiest base, it remains adequately stable with a bit of moisture underneath.
The 4mm base provides moderate resistance, striking a balance between softness and firmness. This makes it suitable for a variety of use cases.
Surface Characteristics
OwePowe advertises the pad as a “speed-slash-control” pad, a claim I usually find contradictory. However, the WGR Series impressed me with its balance. The surface is exceptionally fast, comparable to the Artisan Raiden Mid, one of the quickest cloth pads available. Despite its speed, the pad offers enough resistance to facilitate controlled stopping.
The surface has a unique waxy feel, which may suggest a coating, though none is officially stated. This texture enhances the glide and provides an element of control, making it stand out among the many pads I have tested.
Design and Aesthetics
The WGR Series features hand-drawn, cartoonish designs, adding an artistic flair to the mouse pad. Currently, there are four design options available. While I would have appreciated solid-color options, the unique designs are a signature feature of the brand.
Performance and Testing
Throughout testing, I used various mouse skates, including Obsidian Air Pros, Jade Air Pros, and stock skates on my Lamzu Maya X and WL Mouse Sword X. There was slight feedback with dot skates, but it was negligible overall.
The pad’s faster nature excelled in tracking-heavy games, while its control elements made it versatile for target switching and static clicking scenarios. The plush base allowed for effective flicks without bottoming out, even under pressure.
Pricing and Value
At $38, the WGR Series is an affordable option compared to premium brands like Artisan. While smaller companies may face occasional quality control issues, such as the minor stitching imperfection on my unit, the overall value for the price is outstanding.
Conclusion
The OwePowe WGR Series mouse pad is a fantastic choice for those seeking a unique design and a high-performance surface at a reasonable price. Its combination of speed and control, paired with its artistic aesthetic, sets it apart in the market. While I hope to see solid-color options in the future, the pad’s distinctiveness is a significant strength. For anyone in search of a reliable, fast pad with control elements, the WGR Series is highly recommended.
